KPV (Lysine-Proline-Valine) is a naturally occurring tripeptide derived from alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), primarily researched for its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating properties. At the cellular level, KPV has demonstrated the ability to inhibit NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways, reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-8. Research suggests KPV can enter certain cells through the PepT1 peptide transporter, helping regulate inflammatory responses. Preclinical studies are investigating its potential applications in inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, as well as intestinal barrier protection and tissue inflammation. Animal studies have demonstrated reductions in intestinal inflammation and inflammatory markers. However, human safety and efficacy remain unestablished.
